Overview

Working collaboratively with the Director and hospital Epidemiologist, designs, implements, coordinates, and maintains an effective Infection Prevention and Control program which meets the needs of the healthcare system based on risk assessment and consistent with regulatory requirements. Acts as a liaison between the hospital, St. Vincent's Healthcare and Rehab Facility, ambulatory sites, the local Board of Health and the community. Ensures appropriate and timely reporting of infectious/communicable diseases and designs and implements educational presentations for all hospital personnel, patients, family members and all others as appropriate. Adheres to all mandatory reporting elements as defined by CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services), N.J.A.C. 8:56 - Health Care Facilities Infection Reporting Requirements to CMS via NHSN. Complies with any validation requests mandated by CMS and submits required data in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

Based on hospital demographics and risk assessment, develops, implements, monitors and evaluates the hospital wide Infection Prevention and Control program in compliance with regulatory requirements and as evidenced by the Infection Prevention and Control policy and procedure manual. Oversees/participates in surveillance activities designed to identify HAI (Healthcare Associated Infections), MDRO (Multi Drug Resistant Organisms), and communicable/infectious diseases. Develops interventions to reduce these risks through data analysis, interventions, policy and education. Co-Chairs the Infection Prevention and Control Committee and presents data analysis, identifies issues, and trends. Works collaboratively with members on problem resolution, implementation of interventions. Monitors outcomes as evidenced through documentation in the meeting minute.score: N/A Researches, designs and implements education programs for all hospital personnel, contracted staff/students/residents as well as patients/family/visitors that meet State/regulatory requirements. Advances the Infection Prevention and Control Program through participation in research, educational programs, professional meetings and integrating best practices as evidenced by policy/procedure/education.score: N/A Collaborates with Employee Health Services to ensure employee health and safety as evidenced by policy, data analysis, and interventions designed to reduce risk of exposure and promote a safe work environment.score: N/A Act as a liaison between the Healthcare system, ambulatory sites, local and State Boards of Health through timely and accurate reporting of infectious/communicable diseases. Identifies clusters of infection that may indicate an "outbreak" and directs staff to implement appropriate precautions.score: N/A Participates in hospital disaster preparedness by writing policy which complies with WHO/CDC (World Health Organization/Centers for Disease Control) directives, specific to bio-terrorism/outbreak issues which incorporate Infection Prevention and Control risk reduction and exposure prevention strategies.score: N/A Participates in the initial planning phase of all renovations, remodeling and new construction within the healthcare system. Ensures completion of Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) and Penetration Permits. Monitors areas under renovation. remodeling and or construction. Qualifications

Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts normally acquired through completion of a Master's degree in Health Sciences (MS) or Public Health (MPH) or Nursing (MSN) or closely related field, and three to five years of work related experience in hospital epidemiology/infection control with increased responsibilities related to the oversight of an Infection Control Program in an acute care medical center. Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology Certification (CIC) in Infection Prevention and Control required.
