Working collaboratively with the Director and hospital Epidemiologist, designs, implements, coordinates, and maintains an effective Infection Prevention and Control program which meets the needs of the healthcare system based on risk assessment and consistent with regulatory requirements. Acts as a liaison between the hospital, St. Vincent's Healthcare and Rehab Facility, ambulatory sites, the local Board of Health and the community. Ensures appropriate and timely reporting of infectious/communicable diseases and designs and implements educational presentations for all hospital personnel, patients, family members and all others as appropriate. Adheres to all mandatory reporting elements as defined by CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services), N.J.A.C. 8:56 - Health Care Facilities Infection Reporting Requirements to CMS via NHSN. Complies with any validation requests mandated by CMS and submits required data in a timely manner.
Based on hospital demographics and risk assessment, develops, implements, monitors and evaluates the hospital wide Infection Prevention and Control program in compliance with regulatory requirements and as evidenced by the Infection Prevention and Control policy and procedure manual. Oversees/participates in surveillance activities designed to identify HAI (Healthcare Associated Infections), MDRO (Multi Drug Resistant Organisms), and communicable/infectious diseases. Develops interventions to reduce these risks through data analysis, interventions, policy and education. Co-Chairs the Infection Prevention and Control Committee and presents data analysis, identifies issues, and trends. Works collaboratively with members on problem resolution, implementation of interventions. Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts normally acquired through completion of a Master's degree in Health Sciences (MS) or Public Health (MPH) or Nursing (MSN) or closely related field, and three to five years of work related experience in hospital epidemiology/infection control with increased responsibilities related to the oversight of an Infection Control Program in an acute care medical center. Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology Certification (CIC) in Infection Prevention and Control required.
