Under general supervision and according to established procedures, provides basic medical assistance to physicians/providers and nurses by providing basic preparation of patients according to area specific Policy and Procedures including but not limited to vital signs, chart preparation, phlebotomy, procedure assistance and lab sample collection. Utilizes department specific computer systems for entry and retrieval of patient data
Prepares the patient for exam, taking accurate vital signs interviews for area specific info, provides appropriate garments and equipment ensuring that patients are in on time for exam. Performs phlebotomy on patients with accuracy, collects the correct specimen, labels correctly, enters specimen information into correct system per area, and forwards to the appropriate lab. Collects all specimens from patients i.e. urine for lab testing according to area specific policy, labels accurately, enters specimen into system and forwards to correct lab. Responsible for performing a variety of clerical functions such as answer phones, greet patients, and handle correspondence such as faxes, lab, diagnostic test, consults and letters. Registers patients for New and Revisit appointments in appropriate program. Updates and verify all demographics and insurance information at each visit for accurate reports. Enters and retrieves patient data including lab and diagnostic reports as needed utilizing area specific computer systems ensuring the charts are up to date for visit. Enters orders into correct computer system. Scans labs, diagnostic tests,& other reports, etc. into patient's EMR to complete record.. Stocks and cleans exam and procedure rooms, and equipment according to area policy at all times i.e.. in between patient exams, and at start and end of day employing the latest Infection Control policies. Orders both medical and clerical supplies as outlined in area specific guidelines managing the supplies in a timely manner and preventing unnecessary stock. Meets all required competencies for department, unit and/or hospital. Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned.
Work requires a High School diploma or equivalent and less than one year of previous work related experience. Graduate of an accredited Medical Assisting program. Bilingual preferred.
