Responsible for operating and maintaining all boilers, electric and steam chillers, cooling towers, variable frequency drives, air compressors and related auxiliary equipment in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with applicable laws. Operates and maintains all emergency generators, fuel storage tanks and associated equipment. Responsible for operating and maintaining all cogeneration units, condensers, waste heat boilers, pneumatic and electric controls, and related auxiliary equipment.
Performs maintenance on boilers, replacing components, clean and repair refractory. Maintains accurate records for OSHA, JCAHO, EPA, DEP and the Office of Pressure Vessel Code Compliance. Log temperatures, pressures, fuel usage, run hours, change charts and all other applicable recordkeeping for each shift. Maintains and operates all chiller systems, cooling towers, chilled and condenser water pumps, purge systems, and related equipment. Maintains and operates all generators, radiators, fuel storage tanks and related equipment. Rebuilds and overhaul pumps, valves, gear reducers, motors, actuators, air compressors and heat exchangers and cogen equipment. Works on computerized tower chemical controllers, water softeners and dealkalizer. Performs all duties related to Confined Space certification, including all three levels of certification. Fills out all necessary entry permits and test equipment before entering the assigned area. Performs accurate chemical testing of samples from plant systems. Access test results, and make proper adjustments to correctly keep all levels in recommended ranges. Performs inventory of supplies including pipe, fittings, chemicals, salt, components, gauges and lubricants. Provides evening/holiday/off shift coverage as required. Handle all emergencies related to the Power Plant. Responds to emergency conditions including floods, fires, power outages and equipment failures and snow removal. Meets all required competencies for department, unit and/or hospital. Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned. Special Projects
Work requires a High School diploma or equivalent and three to five years of previous work related experience. Blue Seal Stationary Engineers License required, Blue Seal Refrigeration License preferred and Confined Space Certification preferred. Valid driver’s license required, as well as compliance with Qualifications to Drive a System Vehicle as well as all policies as outlined in the SJHS Fleet Management & Safety Program.
