 Job Overview

 

Under general supervision and according to established procedures, start intravenous and administer recommended amount of radio isotope. Performs stress testing, along with a variety of Nuclear Cardiac scanning on outpatients. Completes computer processing and analysis of all test data.

Responsibilities

Operates Gamma camera, Dose Calibrator, Wipe test counter & all other equipment correctly as per manufacturer�s recommendation. Practices Gamma radiation protection on patient and self through shielding, selection of exposure factor and personal monitoring. Prior to start of any procedure, "TIME OUT " must occur. For in patient - MR# , Patients name & DOB required for Out Patient Patients name and DOB required. Performs various Nuclear Cardiology procedures, start & monitor IV infusion, monitor patient responses before, during and after test. Observe and document abnormal results. Demonstrates correct and proper technique of handling and injecting radio isotopes as per NRC standard. Practices aseptic and sterile techniques as per JCAHO. Pursues continuing education to comply with licensing requirements. Performs daily record keeping of isotopes, daily quality control for both cameras, package survey, room survey, personal survey, radiation disposal, and weekly wipe tests. Obtains authorizations for stress tests. Order radio isotope on a daily basis as needed. Monitors physician credentials for ICANL recertification due every 3 years Meets all required competencies for department, unit and/or hospital. Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned. Special Projects

Qualifications

Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts normally acquired through completion of an Associates degree in a Science related field. ARRT registry in Nuclear Medicine preferred; State of New Jersey license in Radiologic Technology required. CPR & IV certification are recommended. Work requires the analytical ability to resolve complex problems requiring the use of basic scientific, mathematical or technical principal and in depth, experience base knowledge. Communications may include explaining clinical, technical, and diagnostic procedures to patients and their families enforcing policies and regulations in difficult situation.
