Responsible for transcribing radiologists' dictation using current technology and software for inclusion in patients' medical records. In doing so, transcribes medical reports for radiology modalities including x-ray, CT, MRI, interventional, Nuclear Medicine, and other diagnostic work-ups, therapeutic procedures, etc. for transmission to physicians and other clinical personnel.
Operates and demonstrates proficiency with computer equipment and software in order to transcribe radiology reports dictated by physicians for inclusion in patient medical record. Verifies accuracy of patient identifiers to include, but not limited to, patients first and last name, accession number, date of birth, medical record number and exam type. Follows appropriate procedures and guidelines for clarifying report discrepancies and terminology questions by placing report on hold for follow up and clarification with senior transcriptionist. Maintains records of reports transcribed on a regular basis, indicating type of report transcribed by individual patient, date dictation was received and transcribed, and name of dictator. Follows specified procedures for electronically submitting completed reports to the appropriate queues for approval and electronically faxes preliminary copies when requested by the radiologist. Responsible for identifying technologic problems notifying appropriate people as per site protocol, as needed. Follow through on telephone requests as appropriate and as assigned in transcription office. Performs related clerical duties such as occasionally filing reports in patients' records, admission cards and so forth operating photocopying equipment in order to prepare copies of transcribed reports and distributing reports, as necessary. Maintains dictation equipment and all office equipment, cleaning as needed, and informing the appropriate people of equipment needing repair. Meets all required competencies for department, unit and/or hospital. Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned.
Work requires a High School diploma or equivalent and one to two years of previous work related experience. Requires the ability to read and understand instructions, add and subtract numbers, and make comparisons between numbers and letters. Ability to listen to audio and transcribe medical reports accurately demonstrating proficiency in both medical terminology and grammar.
