Responsible for assisting patients with activities of daily living, provides basic care to acutely ill patients. Assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment. Performs EKG's and Venipuncture as directed by the Registered Nurse.
Under the direction of the Registered Nurse performs patient care including, but not limited to: assisting patient in activities of daily living such as basic personal hygiene, bathing, skin care, range of motion exercise, feeding, height/weight measurement, documentation of vital signs, intake and output, accucheck and results. Provides the patient and family with a general orientation to their room and unit. Responds to call lights within 5 minutes in a curatively manner. Tends to the immediate needs of the patient. Informs the nurse(s) responsible for specific requests, complaints of pain, general complaints as well as changes in patient's condition. Records vital signs, provides for patient toileting, makes beds and assists in meeting the nutritional needs of the patient. Collects specimens. Performs EKG's. Ensures patient identification measures prior and during the specimen labeling process. Ensures the unit and patient care supplies are stocked and re-stocked as indicated. Maintains the principles of patient satisfaction, embracing excellence and relationship based care. Completes hourly rounds on assigned patients. Facilitates the resolution of patient/family complaints and reports issues to the Registered Nurse. Ensures patient belongings and valuables are secured according to hospital policy. Ensures the patient environment is clean and free of clutter. Safety measures are employed at all times. Infection control and Standard precaution measures are employed daily for each patient. Participates in the Performance Improvement processes and Relationship based care projects established by the unit. Facilitates the transportation of the patient to/from a diagnostic area or discharge area. Transports deceased patients to the morgue. Completes post mortem care as directed by the Registered Nurse. Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned. Meets all required competencies for department, unit and/or hospital. Special Projects
Work requires a High School diploma or equivalent. Nurses Aide certification from the NJ Department of Health preferred OR a minimum of three years of previous work related experience within the last 6 months in an acute care hospital OR successful completion of nursing school courses including Fundamentals of Nursing Practice OR a National Healthcareer Association Certificate OR a PCA/PCT Diploma. BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required or must obtain BLS certification within 6 months of hire.
