Responsible for providing prenatal, intrapartal, and postpartum care, as well as well-woman gynecological care. Has full responsibility for management of medically and obstetrically uncomplicated patients, and provides collaborative care for patients with certain complications.
Secures medical/obstetrical history; conducts risk assessment; Develops and updates midwifery plan of care; modifies plan as indicated by change in patient status. Performs comprehensive physical examination. Orders appropriate laboratory tests, procedures, evaluations. Refers patients for appropriate consultations. Participates within a multidisciplinary team in developing and facilitating comprehensive plan of care. Provides comprehensive care to uncomplicated patients, including antepatum, intrapartum postpartum and gyn care, including conducting NSVD, within framework of Department policy and Midwifery protocols. Provides collaborative care in consultation with physician for patients who have/or develop certain complications within framework of midwifery protocols. Maintains current level of knowledge as evidenced by: 1) Current membership in ACNM, 2) Current certification by ACMB; 3) Current CPR/Neonatal resuscitation; 4) Fetal monitoring course within 5 years; 50 Attendance at Department/Section meetings. May perform minimal OB ultrasound as established by midwifery protocols. Acts as patient advocate for patients transferred out of midwifery care. Meets all required competencies for department, unit and/or hospital. Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned. Special Projects
Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing or closely related field, Masters Degree preferred, and completion of ACNM approved Nurse-Midwifery educational program. Certification required as a Certified Nurse Midwife and Licensure required as a Registered Nurse and Certified Nurse Midwife by the State of NJ with prescriptive privileges. Analytical ability; ability to resolve highly complex problems requiring the application of scientific/technical principles, theories, and concepts, and in-depth, experienced based knowledge. Performance of OB Ultrasound requires completion of establishes didactic and clinical preparation.
