     Job Overview


    Provides individual assessment and counseling on nutrition and health to WIC Participants. Provides food prescription and promote breastfeeding. Facilitates classes on specific nutrition topics to groups of participants. Makes appropriate referrals to other health and social service agencies. Documents in WIC ACCESS computer system


    Provides individual counseling to participants, concerning maternal and child health care, according to NJ WIC guidelines Conducts group nutrition and health education classes, based on lesson plans in the currently approved nutrition education plan Screens applicants for eligibility for WIC program using nutrition assessment, anthropometrics and relevant medical data. Documents in WIC ACCESS all participant data, SOAP notes, food prescription, and referral information. Documents additional notes and alerts as necessary. Develops individualized plan for high risk participants, including special food prescriptions and frequent individual counseling visits. Coordinates nutrition and clerical activities at off-site locations. Participates in outreach activities, such as health fairs, in-service trainings for collaborating agencies, etc. Assists in the development and implementation of annual nutrition education plan. Utilizes educational materials to enhance presentation of health promotion recommendations. Participates in state level WIC nutrition service meetings, conferences and seminars. Meets all required competencies for department, unit and/or hospital. Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned. Special Projects


    Work requires knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in Nutritional Science or closely related field and one to two years of previous work related experience required. Satisfactory completion of didactic program Plan IV or plan V as stipulated by American Dietetic Association verification statement. Approval by NJ WIC Services. Work requires the ability to counsel and educate patients and their families, assign and follow up on the work of other employees, or perform other duties requiring a comparable level of communication skill.
