Responsible for serving as a resource for the staff of St. Joseph's Healthcare System (St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph's Wayne Hospital, St. Vincent's Nursing Home) as a catalyst in support of health care professionals and the institution in addressing the myriad of ethical issues and dilemmas that arise daily.
Provides consultation services to any and all committees in the Healthcare System where ethical issues may arise. Provides ethical consultation services to other professionals involving patient care cases that raise specific ethical issues and/or dilemmas. Assists in the development/implementation of all policies that pertain to ethics. Provides educational programs for the Healthcare System, especially for the Residents. Assumes the leadership for the development, organizational and implementation of the Ethics at Lunch program. Works with SJHS in preparation for Joint Commission accreditation. Works with the System's Ethics Committees to educate and develop their professional commitment to ethics within the Catholic tradition. Serves as a liaison between St. Joseph's Healthcare System and North Jersey Developmental Center. Ensures ERD's (Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare) are upheld in all areas of SJHS. Meets all required competencies for department, unit and/or hospital. Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned.
Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles and concepts normally acquired through the completion of a PhD in Theology or Philosophy or related field and five to seven years of previous work related experience. Demonstrates knowledge of Catholic Church teaching. Experience in health care with demonstrated expertise in clinical and organizational ethics. standing.
