     Job Overview


    Responsible for the organization and management of nursing personnel practices during a designated shift. Ensures a professional environment and assists staff as necessary. Evaluates the effectiveness of the nursing care given.


    Provides direct patient care and assigns nursing staff in accordance with patient acuity. Acts as a resource to staff. Investigates complaints or incidents concerning patients, visitors, physicians and subordinates referring back to the supervisor. Assists the Manager in assuring adequate nursing staff on designated shift. Ensures a safe, professional environment for patient, families and staff. Plans and implements age specific nursing interventions, which maximize patient/significant other involvements and existing resources to provide for optimum patient outcomes. Participates in Performance Improvement. Implements and performs age specific assessment and appropriate nursing care interventions according to prescribed therapeutic regimen and reports abnormalities to MD/APN promptly with accurate documentation. Manages all aspects of designated specialties. Ensures the rooms are sufficiently stocked with necessary medical supplies and equipment bringing to the manager's attention any supplies needed to be ordered. Works in collaboration with the Central Sterile Services manager and resource staff to ensure proper use of instrumentation, and equipment. Meets with surgeons/doctors within specialty to ensure service efficiency and promote physician satisfaction. Meets all required competencies for department, unit and/or hospital. Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned. Special Projects


    Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles and concepts normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and two to three years of previous work related experience plus six to twelve months of on the job training and orientation. Licensure required as a Registered Nurse by the State of New Jersey. Work requires the analytical ability to collect information from diverse sources, apply professional principles in performing various analysis and summarize the information and data in order to solve problems or design relatively complex systems and programs. Work requires the ability to counsel and educate patients and their families, assign and follow-up on work of other employees, or perform other duties requiring a comparable level of communication skill.
