Responsible for providing music therapy sessions for pediatric patients, as well as family members, during the hospital stay. Utilizes music therapy to: help patients cope with their illnesses; normalize the hospital environment; facilitate patient's expression of feelings; and help patients cope with painful procedures. Collaborates with the other members of the child life department and treatment team when caring for the patients.
Plans, organizes and leads group music therapy sessions for pediatric patients to help them cope with their hospital stay. Conducts individual music therapy sessions for patients who cannot attend group sessions and/or express an interest or need for more in-depth work. Collaborates with child life staff members and interdisciplinary team members by sharing assessments and preparing individualized treatment plans. Expands music therapy sessions to parents, siblings and close family members when appropriate. Responsible for ordering and maintaining all music therapy supplies and equipment. Provides patients and families with music therapy keepsake items. Documents music therapy sessions with patients in the medical chart. Maintains daily census of patients who participate in music therapy. Summarizes the patients' reactions to the sessions. Meets all required competencies for department, unit and/or hospital. Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned. Special Projects
Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy or closely related field and two to three years of work related experience. Music Therapy Certification required. Requires analytical skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment, attention to detail and problem resolution. Must possess strong customer service, communication, organizational & interpersonal skills.
