     Job Overview

     

    Responsible for performing complete dental prophylaxis, takes and develops radiographs, chart oral conditions, instruct on oral hygiene procedures, perform periodontal scaling and root planning, sterilize instruments, disinfect all work area. Assists with teaching OSHA and infection control procedures.

    Responsibilities

    Records patients medical and dental history, including blood pressure and pulse. Examines soft and hard tissue of the head, neck and oral cavity; note deformities, defects and abnormalities. Documents in Patient chart all findings. Places sealants adequately. Periodontal and root scaling. Performs a complete dental prophylaxis with probing depths. Exposes, develops and mounts x-rays. Successfully completes the sterilization process without reminders. Stocks and maintains exam room with supplies, equipment and instruments. Develops a recall system for registered dental patients. Provides chair side dental assisting when needed. Meets all required competencies for department, unit and/or hospital. Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned. Special Projects

    Qualifications

    Work requires the level of knowledge normally acquired through completion of an accredited instructional program in Dental Hygiene. Must be licensed by the state of New Jersey as a Dental Hygienist. Work requires the analytical ability to gather and interpret data in situations where the information or problems are not overly difficult or complex. Work requires direct patient care to adolescent and adult patients.
