Job Overview

Pathology: Under close supervision and in accordance with detailed policies and procedures, retrieves, receives, accessions and labels surgical pathology specimens, answering phones, handling customer inquiries, performing printing of laboratory test results, recording information into logs and/or documents, and performing various other routine clerical duties. Assists with placement of bodies and/or remains into the morgue, and release of same to authorized agencies or persons. Assists with specimen preparation and packaging for dispatch to reference laboratories. 

 

Logistic: Under close supervision and in accordance with detailed policies and procedures, handles customer inquiries, performs routine clerical duties, performs printing and charting of laboratory results, performs specimen receipt and accessioning and specimen processing for assigned areas of the laboratory. 

 

Blood Bank:Under close supervision and in accordance with detailed policies and procedures is responsible for inventory of blood products and supplies, including the ordering, receipt, recording, and computer entry of received inventory. Processes, selects, modifies, prepares and issues blood and blood products for transfusion. Performs daily quality control on equipment, and blood/blood component refrigerators and freezers.

Qualifications

  • Work requires a High School diploma or equivalent and basic technical training, usually one year or less.
  • Work requires the ability to gather and interpret data in situations where the information or problems are not overly difficult or complex. Work requires the ability to exchange information on factual matters with appropriate personnel.
  • Work may require interaction with patients and their families, visitors and/or other hospital personnel, where ordinary courtesy and tact are required.
  • Work is performed according to established schedules and existing procedures, however employee must be able to set work priorities, organize work, and select proper equipment and supplies.
