Job Overview
Responsible for assisting Pathologists with gross dissection, dictation of surgical specimens and submit sections for histological processing. Photographs surgical and autopsy specimens. Assists in preparation and performance of autopsy procedure on adults, children and infants. Screens and reviews patient's charts with Pathologist. Complies with DNV, CAP, NJSDH standards. Assists with frozen section. Accessions surgical specimens in LIS as necessary.
Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts normally acquired through completion of an Associates Degree in one of the biological sciences or closely related field from a fully accredited college or university, and documentation of a minimum of three months of on the job training in grossing of surgical pathology specimens, in a laboratory or program approved by the pathologist, is required. AAPA certification is preferred. Occupationally-specific training or three to five years of previous grossing experience preferred. Autopsy experience required.
